I've got a hot pink temporary color hairspray for a costume party but have never used it before. Do I use my other product (basically a pomade) to make my hair spiky first, and then spray the color? Or do I do the color first? I've also read that it's best to put some plain hairspray over the color - keeps it more stable for the evening. Any advice will be appreciated.

You have that right. The hairspray will keep the temp from flaking off at the party.
