My cat is biting his hair.?

My cat has been biting chunks of his hair out on his back. He looks really gross now. I don't know why hes doing this. He doesn't have fleas and hes not scratching himself or anything. When hes washing himself he just bites chucks of hair out. Can anyone tell me why he might be doing this? And also what color is a cats skin supposed to be? The parts where he's bald are like black and some are pink. But the skin is smooth and it doesn't seem like theres anything wrong with it.

Oh and please don't answer by saying go to a vet.

I'm trying to find out what it is first because it might not be that big of a problem.

My cat is biting his hair.?

my female does that now, but there has been some trauma in her life, a move or anything with anxiety does it. everyone will say flea's but there is a different reaction with flea's. your cat is reacting to something, but with my experience they got over it and hair grew back. And with the skin colour it depends on the colour of your cat, my cat is tortes shell and her fur and skin match the same, so with my experience with my cats and not wasting money on a vet he is going through a phase if its not a reaction and will get over it, try spraying a bit of cat repellent on where he is chewing that will deter him, same happens with dogs only we can put a bucket around their head, the hair will grow back, but if you don't get your answers here and are still worried ring a vet, that don't cost anything, all the best for you and puddy.

Well, if you dont want to go to a vet, then...

It might be that your cat has a skin irritation or alergy. it does not always look on his skin as if there is something wrong. He may have gotten into something that irritates him. Also, a cats skin can be multicolored.

You arent really going to know without either changing his food and trial and error or going to the vet....Sorry.

hi i just kinda posting the same problem, but for my dog...but i remember i had a cat who had that problem your talking about....i had to feed him good qaulity food for his skin..something high in fiber, like a hairball control food...sometimes i didnt always have enough to buy him high qaulity food, and as soon as he would eat the cheap food, he would bite his hair and chuncks would come out...it was like a skin thing with him...and as soon as he got his good food, he would clear up...i had him for 15 yrs. this never happened till he was almost 2yrs old, and from then on he always had that problem for yrs and yrs if he ate cheap food....Well i dont know if this is an answear, just something i experienced with my cat..

Fleas

My cat has that. He has a food allergy, and just go to the vet, and feed your cat organic food. The vet will give you stuff that looks like pink peptol bismol for him

I think your cat has anxiety or OCD

My cat is biting his hair.?

It can be a big problem. My cat does it too, and they usually do it because of nervousness(when they feel stressed, which is kinda funny because there cant be much for a cat to be stressed about), or if they have sensitive skin in which case might need special shampoo to soothe it. My vet told us our cat was doing it for both reasons, she is easily stressed, and she has a skin allergy(her skin is really sensitive)so you really should talk to a vet, and they will be able to tell you if thats the case with your cat, and tell you which shampoos, etc to use on him. I dont remember the name of the shampoo we used, but it really did the trick. She still does it sometimes, but it isnt as bad, its like an itch she cant stop picking at.. lol. It could also be mainge which is deadly if it is left untreated so really you should talk to a vet. Im sure if you cant afford it they will work something out with you.
